Disclaimer

Even though many customers report an immediate freedom from pain, it may take a while ridding your tennis elbow / golfer’s elbow completely and of course it is also possible that the Masalo Cuff may not have the desired effect in your personal case. An epicondylitis is a serious medical issue and medical matters are always individual. The healing progress is dependant on many factors and differs for each patient. Therefore and for legal reasons we cannot and will not provide a healing guaranty. Some reviews have been translated from German.
We wish you a rapid recovery!

Stay patient & carry Masalo

An absolutely top product, many thanks to the developers! I never write reviews, but here I think it is enormously important to share my experience. Because I know how painful, discouraging and long-lasting tennis elbow is.

I contracted tennis elbow in May 2021. After diagnosis and consultation with several orthopaedic surgeons, I have undergone the following therapies – with no perceptible success:

Medi compression sleeve (approx. 4 weeks during the day), stretching exercises (2x daily a 2 min. min.) , ultrasound therapy (10 sessions a 15 min), cooling (as often as possible in the office routine), ibuprofen cure (10 days each 3x daily 600s), quark wrap (2 weeks every evening 30 minutes), electro TENS therapy (3 weeks 2-3x daily 30 minutes), fascia massage (every second evening 20-30 movements over trigger points).

Despite all the therapy attempts, after 3 months the pain was much stronger than in the acute phase at the beginning of the injury, especially at night.

As I wanted to remain active in sports and not aimlessly give up windsurfing for months, I got the Masalo cuff. No orthopaedist knew about the product or could prescribe it. The Techniker Krankenkasse did not cover the product either.

I then wore the cuff consistently during the day for 6 weeks. I did not do any other exercises during the first 6 weeks, only a very light massage of the forearm after taking off the cuff in the evening. It is really important that the tendon is relieved and comes to rest, I would like to emphasise that. I also didn’t do any sports/windsurfing during the rest phase.

It was only from the 7th week that I started mobilising and strengthening with very careful stretching exercises WITHOUT pain. In my experience, it is super important to be careful here and not to stretch into pain. In the ongoing weeks, I added longer pain-free stretches (over 2 minutes) and common strength exercises. From the 9th week onwards, I no longer wore the cuff in everyday life.

An important point that is rarely or never addressed from an orthopaedic point of view is nutrition. I consciously made sure to avoid inflammation-promoting foods like alcohol or meat, fats and processed products. Alcohol and meat are poison for inflammation in the body.

Apart from an occasional twinge, I am now – November 2021 – pain-free in everyday life. When I do sports, I specifically prevent new irritations with stretching exercises and massage before and after sports.

At night, I still notice the tennis elbow from time to time.

To be fair, you also have to look at cause and effect here:

Of course, it is impossible to say to what extent the healing process would have been as successful if I had not used the cuff.

However, I am convinced that the targeted relief of the tendon has made an enormous contribution to the healing process.

Response from Masalo.co.uk

Hello Mr Turck, thank you very much for this great experience report. I am sure it will help many customers. First of all, I would like to briefly discuss the rejections by the doctor and the insurance company. Our Masalo® Cuff MED is registered in the German register of medical aids under the aid number 23.08.04.0042. This means that prescriptions can be issued and that the health insurance companies have to cover at least part of the costs. After all, you are insured and pay your contributions. However, it may be that prescriptions for other epi bandages have already been submitted and that the quota of such prescriptions has therefore been exhausted. Otherwise, your report contains very good tips on the subject of nutrition and massages, for example. I also think it’s very good that you don’t use and recommend the stretching exercises unconditionally, but approach them with due caution. Otherwise it can really have disadvantages and make the problem much worse. But the way you do it is OK. We are really pleased that you have almost completely overcome your epicondylitis. However, I recommend that you wear the cuff – even a little looser – for a few nights while you sleep. What you describe happens more often. On average, you turn over 30 to 80 times during the night. You may also support yourself with your arm, or pull up the covers, etc. This can put strain on the tendons and cause them to slacken. This can put strain on the tendons and “rip” micro-tears again. This can lead to pain. You have to understand that these are really microscopic injuries to the tendons, which can also rupture again under unfavourable stress, without protection. Perhaps you should try applying the cuff overnight. I wish you a continued good recovery and thank you again for your report and the time. Best regards Harry Röder

Pain mostly gone

The pain is really noticeably reduced after 20 minutes, but I also hoped for full hand functionality, which is unfortunately not present. For example, when I use the impact wrench and put pressure on the device, I notice that my fist does not reach the pressure it used to and I still feel a stinging in my elbow. I hoped to regain full functionality and complete freedom from pain, but neither is achievable when working. Maybe I am too impatient and expect too much too quickly. I hope that there will be improvement after 1 month, I will give feedback again if I may.

Addendum: Thank you for the quick reply, and I will move the upper arm cuff if necessary or tighten it a little and pain without strain is gone, thank God, otherwise I would certainly not have ordered 2!

Maier

Response from Masalo.co.uk

Hello Mr Maier, 3 star ratings actually mean that you are not really satisfied with the product. But you ordered a second bandage because the first one worked very well. Our cuff helps very well, as you have noticed yourself. However, you really can’t expect that there will be no more pain for everyone and always immediately and with every possible strain. Tennis elbow doesn’t happen overnight, but has existed for some time beforehand. Healing also takes time. You will get rid of your epicondylitis, I am quite sure of that. But it also takes patience and small “setbacks” are quite normal in the healing process. You can work, which is better than not being able to work. If you now also tighten the support as described for heavy loads, i.e. for more effect, most work will be possible without pain. Twisting movements (e.g. with a screwdriver) or even blows, which then act on the tendon insertions, can still lead to strain pain. The Masalo MED cuff helps very well, but unfortunately it can’t work miracles either. To be honest, I personally don’t find 3 stars appropriate. Well, there are hardly any negative reviews and yours is not negative except for the 3 stars. Since we don’t censor and publish everything, your report is also online. We wish you a good recovery. Best regards Harry Röder

After the first application, the pain relief in everyday life was easily reduced by 70%. Now I hope that everything heals quickly.

I wish that the cuff was offered in dirt-resistant colours, because it looks really shitty after 2 days. Colours like black or anthracite would help.

Christian Haas

Response from Masalo.co.uk

Hello Mr Haas, thank you very much for your feedback. If you are already achieving 70% pain reduction as described, then you should make progress very quickly. Yes, you are right. The white colour is not optimal for many users, so we have already developed a black bandage. This is now in the approval process, but the timeframe is impossible to estimate and depends on many factors (tests, etc.). We are working on it at full speed. In the meantime, I recommend that you put something over the cuff to protect it from major contamination. Some of our customers do this with, for example, a sleeve piece of an old long-sleeved shirt or something similar. It is a makeshift solution, but it works. I sincerely wish you a good recovery and should anything be the matter, please contact us. Kind regards Harry Röder

I can only recommend the cuff…I have already tried several braces and nothing has helped. Since I started wearing the Masalo cuff, the pain has improved – you just have to wear it consistently.

Very good invention

Vera Hauch

Response from Masalo.co.uk

Dear Mrs Hauch, thank you very much for your feedback. We are very pleased that the Masalo cuff also helps you. Then the bandage should also be applied correctly 🙂 Nevertheless, we would be happy to take another look if you would send us 2 photos of your arm with the bandage on via our contact form or by email. Often we can optimise the fit with a few tips and thus achieve an even better effect 😉 If you like, we are happy to be there for you and wish you a good recovery. Kind regards Harry Röder

I’ve only had the cuff since today and I’m thrilled. First of all, it was quite easy to find a medical supply store that had my size in stock and secondly, my family doctor didn’t know about this cuff yet, but she was immediately willing (after googling for it) to write me a prescription.

At the medical supply store, I was shown how to put it on right away and on the drive home I already noticed the first relief.

Of course, as a health insurance patient you have to pay a lot more, but you have to pay for a lot of things nowadays and here it really seems to have been worth it. And I would have bought them privately, so I saved money.

Vanessa Röltgen

Response from Masalo.co.uk

Hello Mrs. Röltgen, thank you very much for your nice feedback. That’s exactly how it should be, you should feel a clear relief immediately. However, I still recommend that you read the enclosed brochure completely and at your leisure. In addition to the instructions, it contains many helpful tips on how to get over epicondylitis more quickly. I also have to tell you that your current situation does not mean that you are cured. The epicondylitis is still there and really needs patience. Permanent weight-bearing ensures a faster healing process, also you should observe possible inflammations, if necessary do something additionally against it and if possible do massages or have them done (physiotherapy). Since it is often small things that significantly improve or worsen the effect, you are very welcome to send 2 photos of your arm with the support on by email or via our contact form. This way we can have a look at everything and maybe give you some helpful tips. We would also be interested to know how much you had to pay. This varies from dealer to dealer and we would like to keep it within reasonable limits. Please contact us in any case if there is something wrong. We are always happy to help 🙂 We sincerely wish you a good recovery. Kind regards Harry Röder
